The successful trade in Ghana led to the spread of Islam there. There was an Islamic community a distance away from the king’s palace. This community had its own mosques and schools. Despite this, the King continued in his own beliefs.
Soninke was the language spoken in Ghana. In Soninke “Ghana” means “the king”. Some of the mosques found in ancient Ghana were ornate and had artistic influences on building that were built in that region. Clay figures were another part of the art of Ghana.
